Qualifications and Experience 

Education Background 

Bachelor’s degree or above in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering, or related fields; B-Tech degrees are also acceptable. 

Professional Qualifications 

Mandatory: Registration as a Construction Manager with SACPCMP (South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions) or a Senior Civil Engineer qualification certificate issued by ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa); candidates with pending Pr.Eng. (Professional Engineer) registration (under review) are also considered. 

Required: Safety qualification certificates (e.g., OSHAct compliance training certificate). 

Work Experience 

Minimum 10 years of experience in civil or mining engineering construction management, with at least 5 years focusing on construction production management, subcontractor management. 

Proven track record in managing project shutdowns, ensuring on-time delivery, and controlling quality/cost; experience in South African mining projects (familiar with local market, labor policies, and construction practices) is highly preferred. 

Experience in EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management) environments is an advantage. 

 

Required Skills and Abilities 

Technical Skills 

Proficient in interpreting mining/civil construction drawings, structural drawings, and engineering documents; master core construction technologies (e.g., earthwork, concrete, steel structure, Service Corridor). 

Familiar with engineering management software: AutoCAD (drawing analysis), Primavera P6/MS Project (schedule management), Excel (resource statistics/cost accounting). 
 
Soft Skills 

Strong leadership and organizational abilities: capable of managing multi-disciplinary teams (engineers, contractors, safety officers) and coordinating cross-departmental resources. 

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills: able to resolve on-site conflicts, negotiate with stakeholders, and communicate fluently in written/spoken English (basic Zulu or local language skills are a plus). 
 
Other Requirements 

Be able to adapt to the working environment of the construction site, including working in high temperatures and outdoor conditions, and be willing to work overtime or stay on-site when necessary. 

Have a strong sense of responsibility, professionalism and team spirit, and be able to work under pressure to complete the assigned tasks.
